    • OAP Winter 2018 Deadline

Nov 15 DeadlineIf you are studying abroad on the Opportunities Abroad Program (OAP) for Winter 2018, you need to complete your OAP Application Workshop by October 31st. For more information regarding the study abroad process, go to http://studyabroad.ucr.edu/others/prospective.html.   

 

 

 

  • UCEAP students participating in the Pacific Island Environmental & Community Health–Australia & Solomon Islands program were recently featured in a local Solomon Islands newspaper. 

    "Seventeen undergraduate and postgraduate students from the University of California, USA and three lecturers from University of Queensland (UQ) are in the country to undergo a program on environmental health...during one month long field work, they will examine health issues, sanitation, ecology and environmental health..."
  • UCEAP Alumni Emerging Leader Award Recipient – Jeremy Hessler
    Jeremy is a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice. He represents the United States in environmental law cases that involve endangered species and other wildlife. He also counsels federal agencies on how to best comply with environmental statutes in carrying out their missions. Jeremy studied at the University of London, Queen Mary University in the United Kingdom, and graduated from UC Riverside.

  • We are also pleased to announce a relationship with the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (formerly the Monterey Institute of International Studies).

    All UCEAP alumni will receive a guaranteed scholarship of $5,000 for graduate study at MIIS. Students are also eligible for other merit and need-based awards. MIIS came to UCEAP to offer this scholarship because they know our students are culturally competent, academically accomplished, and often have advanced language skills. Critical Language Scholarship Program Application Now Open

We are pleased to welcome American students to apply for the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program to learn critical foreign languages next summer on a fully-funded study abroad program. 

The CLS Program is an intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for American students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities. Students spend eight to ten weeks abroad studying one of 14 critical languages. The program includes intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences designed to promote rapid language gains. 

CLS, a program of the U.S. Department of State, is part of a wider government initiative to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering foreign languages that are critical to national security and economic prosperity. CLS plays an important role in preparing students for the 21st century's globalized workforce and increasing national competitiveness.

Applications are due November 15, 2017 by 7:59pm EST.

The fourteen languages offered by the CLS Program are: 

*         Arabic 

*         Azerbaijani

*         Bangla 

*         Chinese 

*         Hindi 

*         Indonesian

*         Korean 

*         Persian

*         Punjabi 

*         Russian 

*         Swahili 

*         Turkish 

*         Urdu 

Most languages offered by the CLS Program do not require applicants to have any experience studying critical languages. Language pre-requisites can be found on our website at http://www.clscholarship.org/about.

 

Study Asian Elephants with School for Field Studies

The School for Field Studies is excited to announce our new summer program, Ecology and Conservation of Southeast Asian Elephants! 

This program is perfect for students pursuing pre-veterinary studies or interested in wildlife conservation. Students will study at our Center in Siem Reap as well as within the Keo Siema Wildlife Sanctuary at the Elephant Valley Project in Mondulkiri Province. Students will explore Cambodia’s highland ecosystems, wildlife management policies, elephant health and welfare, and the pressures associated with increasing human populations and habitat destruction.

Spring 2018 Full-time IES Internship

IES Internships, a unit of IES Abroad, would like to alert you to the October 2nd deadline for Spring 2018 full-time internship programs in Barcelona, Dublin, London, Milan, Rome, and Santiago, all of which can be viewed here: https://www.iesabroad.org/ies-internships   

Full-time semester internships abroad are great for students who:

*Have plans to graduate early or have an extra semester to fill *Are required by their major or academic department to complete a semester-long work and/or international program *Are soon-to-be graduates seeking international and work experience before finding their first job *Would like to take a gap year/semester between undergraduate and graduate school 

All programs offer unpaid, full-time internship placements, a 3-credit internship seminar course taught at the IES Abroad Center in the respective location, as well as IES Abroad housing, staff & support services, and optional field trips.

Intern Group International Internship Scholarship

The Intern Group is pleased to announce that applications for its scholarships for summer/fall 2018 are now open. 

We are offering four Global Leadership Grants of up to $2500 USD to our internship programs in *Dublin*, *Shanghai*, *Latin America* and *Australia*.

This is an excellent opportunity for your students to gain invaluable international experience and immerse themselves in a new culture. The application deadline is February 2nd, 2018. 

The Intern Group is a provider of international internship programs in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Latin America. As well as gaining hands-on experience from the internship, our programs also include a professional development workshop, an industry-leading workplace performance assessment, expert training materials on key topics and post-internship career coaching to ensure that participants get the most out of their experience. Additionally, the internship can be used to gain academic credit.
