    Sherryl Berg-RidenourDear Prospective Student:

I am excited to bring Ireland to the summer study abroad program.  I hope you will find international marketing in Ireland a fascinating study for management, marketing or other concentrations. My interest in leading a group of students to Ireland stems from a deep interest in the cultural traditions and deep heritage that resides in Ireland and influences their global presence. This international class will bring a fresh perspective to understanding a unique European market. It is always rewarding to explore a new perspective and gain fresh insight on communicating effectively with other cultures. Inside and outside the classroom we will explore the variety on the Emerald Isle as we discover new cultures, rich history, and Celtic approaches to advertising, marketing, and global viewpoints.

We will begin our adventure in busy airport of Shannon and a welcome reception. We will travel the green hills near Galway as we explore the magnificent Cliffs of Moher stretching for 5 miles along the Atlantic coast of County Clare in west Ireland.  We will enjoy some exercise with a bike tour of the Aran Islands and explore old Ireland. After two weeks we will continue to the city of Dublin with rich cultural sites. Newgrange and Hill Tara are a few sites that we will explore as we seek to understand this side of the island.

Gain awareness on Celtic traditions, cuisine, and breath taking sites as you gain valuable insight on marketing in this global environment. BUS114 - International Marketing seeks to promote the globalization of students, faculty and programs through this faculty-led study abroad programs to Ireland. This course will cover major concepts and issues in international and cross cultural advertising campaign planning including assess cultural environments, setting objectives, media, creative, ethics and social responsibility. This course will focus on advertising as part of an integrated marketing communications (IMC) plan. The course also provides an understanding of the broader role of advertising for organizations and marketing communications elements.

You will also have the opportunity to focus on a special study that may interest you during this trip. BUS190 - Special Studies will offer students the opportunity to earn academic credit by participating in independent study or a group research further exploring a more detailed research into the consumer behavior under the supervision of a faculty member. Students can choose a special focus on sports, business, or social entrepreneurism. Various cultures and backgrounds help to develop universal messages, how to appreciate various perspectives and how one business can reach a diverse range of people. Marketing programs abroad enrich your perspective on what makes for effective marketing campaign with this increasingly global economy.

I am also interested in interviewing several social entrepreneurs in Ireland to gain insights on these new budding industries. You are welcome to join me and make this your special study as well.

Please feel free to email me to ask questions about your area of interest. Please note “International Marketing on the Emerald Isle” in the subject heading of all emails.

    Thank-you.
