Spend your summer studying abroad with a UCR professor!
UCR professors lead Faculty-Led Education Abroad Programs (FLEAPs) during summer for 2-5 weeks in other countries. FLEAPs are open to everyone, even non-UCR students.
FLEAP Highlights
-
Get to know your professor ahead of time, or opt to take a course with a professor you already know.
-
Since you’ll be taking UCR classes, there are no additional steps to have your international courses count toward your degree or major.
-
Most programs are offered in the summer, so you can earn credits faster.
-
Most students earn 6-9 UCR credit units, though some FLEAPs are non-credit.
-
Learn in a small classroom setting with a maximum of 20 students.
-
Take at least 6 units to be eligible for summer financial aid. If you are a visiting student, check with your home campus about financial aid.
-
Many students can apply for scholarships like the Gilman Scholarship, Fund for Education Abroad, Pollitt Study Abroad Fund, and UCR Education Abroad Scholarship.
-
While courses have a maximum number of students, they also have a minimum. Check back often to make sure your programs are offered.
-
Withdrawal policies for credit-bearing FLEAP:
- Failure to withdraw in writing by the April 1 deadline will result in forfeiture of the $300 deposit.
- Failure to withdraw in writing by the April 1 deadline will result in forfeiture of the full CMF fee, listed on your FLEAP program page under "Program Fees," which could amount to over $7,000.
- No refunds are available to anyone who withdraws from a FLEAP after April 1.

FLEAP Non-Credit Programs
Non-credit programs are often shorter and more cost-effective. However, since they are non-credit, participants cannot apply for financial aid or most scholarships.
