Giving Tuesday is an annual fundraising event where non-profit organizations try to raise as many funds as possible in a 24 hour period. For 2021, International Affairs hosted two fundraising efforts: one to support Education Abroad scholarships and one to support international students at UCR.
Our Giving Tuesday campaign, “A Bigger Advantage - Expanding Education Abroad Scholarships,” was created to help increase scholarship funds for UCR students. Roughly 2% of UCR undergraduate students study, intern, or conduct research abroad. Our goal is to dramatically increase the number of UCR students who learn abroad and increasing scholarship funding is essential to helping us support more Education Abroad students.
The pandemic has been challenging for many in our community, including international students.
Adjusting to a new culture & learning environment can be difficult, especially during the pandemic. Most of our new and incoming international students have not had the traditional opportunities to get to know the Riverside area, take a campus tour, attend in-person orientation sessions, or meet new people outside of zoom. The donations giving to our “A Better Connection - Supporting International Student Success” campaign
will help the International Students and Scholars office offer special programs and resources to support international students as the global community returns to campus and in-person experiences can safely increase.
In total, 16 donors gave 610.00 dollars to support Education Abroad scholarships.
For international student support, 14 donors gave 270.00 dollars during UCR’s Day of Giving.
We know that small gifts add up over time and every dollar helps! We are grateful for the ongoing support of our global community.
